Recycle Bowl- Sursee Secrets

A whole bunch of yuck!
Ahh, the secrets of the great cooks. What are they?

Well, really they are always easy, why didn't I think of that, hit your forehead ideas.  Here is one.

When you are preparing dinner and you are cutting up your cucumbers or peeling your potatoes, what do you do with all the tailings?  I keep a big bowl on the counter I call my "trash bowl" or "recycle bowl".  The bowl catches all the stuff you aren't using.  It saves time and mess and at the end of the prep time you either throw it all away or launch it into your compost bin outside.

Ahh, so simple.

Sursee Saute- A recipe to share

Wanted to share an easy recipe that uses fresh ears of corn in the summer.  Came home and whipped this up for dinner last night, and it was so easy.

Heat a tablespoon of butter and some swishes of olive oil  in a frying pan.
Yuck, my pan is so pitiful looking!

Then chop up some onion, about 1/2 cup, and throw into the butter/oil and saute.

Can use red or yellow onions

Chop up some orange pepper and throw that in for color and fun.
Fun!

Husk the corn and stand it in a dish to cut off the kernals.  The corn will drop so nicely into the dish.  Dump all the corn and the milk from the corn into the frying pan.

I add a little chopped parsley, salt and pepper and stir fry it for about 5 minutes.  Serve to your hungry family.  A nice sursee for summer!

Sur~Sea...Flip Flops and Grocery Carts

Second day at the beach and it is back to the grocery store already.

We had gone yesterday when we arrived, and it was crowded. Once you got on an aisle, there was no turning around. Cart to cart, we all maneuvered and filled up with food for the week.

But today was different. It was early morning, and we were all a little happier. A little more relaxed. Swimsuits, shorts, cover-ups...flip-flops, sandals...no make-up, bad hair day? Hey, it's ok- it's the beach! I felt like I was part of something- a community. A group? A special club?

No, it felt like family.

I felt like I was part of something bigger than me. It was fun to be there, seeing people I would never see again, but feeling connected to them.

My sur~sea today was knowing I matter. That community matters, even hundreds of miles away from where I live. We all want to matter and be known.

Sur~Sea...A Whiff of Summer

The first whiff of it takes me back. Back to growing up and summer and simple things.

Coppertone = Summer to me.

I smell it and immediately remember swimming at the neighborhood pool and playing spider in the corner with a friend. Eating warm PayDays from the vending machine while you play Jacks on the hot concrete in the shade. Friendships, crushes, sunburns and growing up. It all comes back when the bottle of Coppertone is opened and the white goo is spread in palms and rubbed on backs and arms.

The sur~Sea? A smell that reminds me of days gone by. How can one smell do all that? What smell makes you think of summer?
